Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sustained investment in the education sector as a key driver of development.
The Governor made this known during the 131st Inaugural Lecture of the University of Uyo, delivered by the Commissioner for Education, Professor Ubong Umoh.
Represented at the event by the Commissioner for Works and Fire Service, Professor Eno Ibanga, Governor Eno highlighted several initiatives undertaken by his administration to strengthen the education sector.

These include the remodelling of primary schools, increased subvention to the state university, construction of internal roads and landscaping within school premises, as well as the provision of bursaries, scholarships, grants for students with disabilities.
He commended Professor Ubong Umoh for his intellectual contributions and service to the state, describing him as a valuable member of the State Executive Council.
The inaugural lecture, titled “Cause, Course and Consequences of Change and Continuity in the Small Wars of Nigeria’s Niger Delta,” explored the historical evolution of conflicts in the Niger Delta and their implications for Nigeria’s security architecture.
In his lecture, Professor Umoh, a distinguished scholar of Military History, offered deep insights into the region’s crises and underscored the need for informed policy responses to address persistent security challenges.
Earlier, the Vice Chancellor of Akwa Ibom State University, Professor OtoAbasi Akpan, presented a citation on the inaugural lecturer, highlighting his academic achievements and contributions to scholarship.

In his remarks, the Acting Vice Chancellor of the University of Uyo, Professor Samuel Gbadebo Adewumi, commended Governor Umo Eno for appointing several alumni of the institution into key positions in his administration and for his continued support toward the university’s growth and development.
He also praised Professor Umoh for delivering an insightful lecture and encouraged students to draw inspiration from his academic journey and scholarly work.
