President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, on Tuesday paid a condolence visit to former Senator Emmanuel Ibok Essien in Ikot Ekpene over the passing of his wife, Dr. (Mrs.) Grace Emmanuel Ibok Essien, who died at the age of 68.
The late Dr. Grace Ibok Essien, wife of the former lawmaker who represented Akwa Ibom North-West Senatorial District at the dawn of the Fourth Republic, is survived by her husband, children, grandchildren, and other relatives. She was also associated with the founding of Ritman University, Ikot Ekpene.
Speaking during the visit, Akpabio urged the bereaved family to take solace in the word of God, noting that life is governed by seasons.

“To everything there is a season—a time to be born and a time to pass on. Where she has gone, all of us will eventually go. While we are alive, we must strive not only to build on earth but also to secure a place in heaven,” he said.
He described the late Mrs. Essien as a woman whose life impacted many, adding that she would be deeply missed by her family, community, and all who knew her.
“Be consoled by the legacies she has left behind and the fact that where she has gone is better than where we are,” Akpabio added, as he prayed for the peaceful repose of her soul.
In his response, Senator Ibok Essien thanked the Senate President for the visit and support, describing his late wife as a pillar of strength whose love, wisdom, and vision positively influenced many lives.

He noted that she was deeply devoted to God and humanity, adding that her passing has left a significant void in the family and beyond.
