President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reiterated that his administration’s infrastructure development and economic reforms are focused on improving the well-being and prosperity of Nigerians.
The President made the assertion on Saturday in Iperu, Ogun State, during the inauguration of the Gateway Cargo International Airport, constructed by the administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun. He also unveiled two aircraft for the newly established Gateway Airline.
“Our investment is about our people. The infrastructure underscores our faith in our country—the belief that today’s foundation is for tomorrow’s prosperity,” Tinubu said.
He commended Governor Abiodun for his commitment to development, noting that the airport is powered by an independent electricity source, reflecting growing investments in the energy sector.
The President emphasised that development must be holistic, highlighting key initiatives in transportation, security, and agriculture, including the rollout of 1,000 electric bikes, security vehicles, and tractors.
Tinubu also praised Nigerians for their continued support for the All Progressives Congress (APC), stating that ongoing reforms have increased resources available to states, enabling them to drive development.
He lauded the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Adewale Adeniyi, for enhancing ease of doing business and prioritising staff welfare, while also commissioning a Customs Hub comprising barracks, a training college, a warehouse, and a hospital.
In his remarks, Governor Dapo Abiodun described the President’s visit as historic and reaffirmed his administration’s alignment with the Renewed Hope Agenda, which he said is driving economic recovery and sustainable growth.
Abiodun highlighted key federal reforms, including the removal of fuel subsidy, foreign exchange unification, and improvements in public finance, noting that they have helped restore investor confidence and attract foreign investment.
Also speaking, Senate President Godswill Akpabio commended Tinubu’s reform initiatives and democratic credentials, urging further reforms in the power sector, particularly the decentralisation of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo praised the administration’s developmental strides, noting the progress made in Ogun State over the years.
The event was attended by top government officials, including ministers, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, several state governors, and traditional rulers.
