A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by former Minister, Tanimu Turaki has ruled out any endorsement of President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections, describing such a move as “immoral and unjust.”

The faction’s National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, made this known on Thursday during an appearance on a TV programme in Abuja.

“It is improper, it is immoral, it is unjust, it is unfair for an opposition party of the standing of the PDP to endorse the presidency or the presidential candidature of President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress,” Ememobong said.

He emphasized that any ongoing reconciliation within the party must reinforce its role as a credible opposition rather than weaken it.

“We are hoping that reason will prevail over emotions,” he added.

The remarks come amid renewed reconciliation efforts within the PDP, as the Turaki-led bloc and the faction aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, resume talks ahead of the party’s national convention scheduled for March 29–30, 2026.

Speaking separately in Abuja, Turaki confirmed that discussions, which began earlier in the week, were already yielding positive results.

He noted that stakeholders were conscious of the implications of the party’s internal crisis, particularly in relation to timelines stipulated by the Electoral Act, and urged all sides to act in the party’s best interest.

Turaki expressed optimism that the crisis, including disagreements with the Wike-led faction, would be resolved, pledging to deploy all necessary measures to restore unity.

“On the issue of compromise, we are willing to bend as far as our necks and backs allow. We are ready to make all sorts of sacrifices in the overall interest of the party. PDP will not die,” he said.

He also disclosed that all pending court cases arising from the dispute would be withdrawn once the reconciliation process is concluded.

The PDP has been grappling with internal divisions in recent months, but the latest talks signal a possible path toward unity as the party prepares for its upcoming national convention.
