Iran has issued a strong warning to a regional country over an alleged plan to assist in the occupation of one of its strategic islands, raising fresh tensions in the ongoing conflict involving the United States and Israel.
Iran’s parliament speaker, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, said intelligence reports indicate that “enemy forces” are planning to seize an Iranian island with the backing of an unnamed country in the region.
He warned that any such move would trigger sustained attacks on critical infrastructure in the country providing support. According to him, Iranian forces are closely monitoring developments and are prepared to respond decisively to any military action.
The warning comes amid growing speculation over the strategic importance of Kharg Island, which hosts Iran’s main crude oil export terminal and is considered a key economic asset. Analysts believe the island could become a target in the expanding regional conflict.
Iran’s position follows increased military activity by the United States in the Gulf region. Reports indicate that thousands of American troops are being deployed, including personnel from the 82nd Airborne Division, alongside Marine units already en route to the area.
At the same time, Washington has continued to combine diplomatic messaging with strong military warnings. US President, Donald Trump has maintained that negotiations with Iran are ongoing, although Tehran has repeatedly denied engaging in direct talks.
The White House has also issued stern warnings, stating that Iran must accept current realities or face intensified military action. Officials warned that failure to comply could result in stronger strikes than previously seen in the conflict.
Regional observers suggest that Iran’s latest warning may be directed at the United Arab Emirates, amid speculation that it could support any potential operation involving the island. However, no official confirmation has been provided.
Further reports indicate that Iran may expand the conflict beyond its immediate borders if attacked. Military sources have suggested that Tehran could open another front near the Bab al-Mandeb Strait, a critical global shipping route linking the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden.
Iran-backed groups in the region are also said to be on alert. Sources indicate that allied forces, including groups operating in Yemen, could be mobilised if the situation escalates further.
Despite rising tensions, there are indications that indirect diplomatic efforts are ongoing, with mediators reportedly passing messages between Washington and Tehran. While the United States is said to have proposed a multi-point plan to end hostilities, Iran is also believed to have outlined its own conditions for a ceasefire.
The situation remains volatile as military build-up continues alongside uncertain diplomatic engagement, with both sides maintaining firm positions amid fears of a broader regional escalation.
