North Korean leader, Kim Jong Un has been reappointed as president of the State Affairs Commission, according to state media KCNA.

The decision was announced following the first session of the country’s Supreme People’s Assembly held in Pyongyang. The assembly, North Korea’s legislative body, is responsible for formally approving key government decisions and leadership positions.

During the session, officials are also expected to review amendments to the socialist constitution and evaluate the country’s economic five-year plan, which was introduced at the recent congress of the ruling Workers’ Party.

Kim’s reappointment reinforces his continued control over North Korea’s political system, with the State Affairs Commission serving as the highest governing body in the country.
