The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has commended troops of Operation UDO KA for their resilience and sustained offensive operations against members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), in the South-East.
The commendation was conveyed during the Chief of Army Staff Special Sallah Luncheon held at Mother Valley in Orsu Local Government Area of Imo State-an area previously identified by the military as a stronghold of the armed groups.
Represented by the Chief of Training (Army), Major General Valentine Okoro, the COAS praised frontline personnel for what he described as their gallantry and unwavering commitment in the face of persistent threats, including improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
He said recent operations have led to the clearance of key hideouts and the disruption of militant networks in the region.
“The troops’ ability to dismantle entrenched positions under difficult conditions reflects the Nigerian Army’s combat effectiveness and operational dominance,” he said.
Shaibu reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to its constitutional role of defending Nigeria’s territorial integrity and protecting lives and property, describing the force as disciplined and mission-focused.
He also commended the General Officer Commanding 82 Division and Commander of Joint Task Force Operation UDO KA, Major General Oluremi Fadairo, for strengthening collaboration with other security agencies and local communities. According to him, such coordination has improved intelligence gathering and contributed to recent operational successes.
In line with the Army’s “Soldier First” policy, the COAS extended goodwill to injured personnel undergoing treatment, assuring them of continued institutional support.
The Army said the event highlights ongoing efforts to stabilise the South-East and called on residents to support security agencies with timely and credible information to sustain the progress made.
