The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has condemned the recent surge in violent attacks across several states, warning that Nigeria could descend into widespread anarchy if urgent and decisive security measures are not taken.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Prof. Tukur Muhammad-Baba, the pan-Northern socio-political organisation expressed deep concern over what it described as disturbing and tragic security incidents in different parts of the country.

The forum cited the recent bomb blast in Maiduguri, Borno State, which reportedly claimed lives and left many others injured.

It also referenced earlier attacks on military formations in the state that resulted in casualties among soldiers and the destruction of military assets.

ACF further highlighted violent assaults on communities in Plateau State, where security personnel were reportedly killed by armed groups, as well as similar incidents in Katsina, Kwara, Niger and Zamfara states. According to the group, the attacks have led to significant loss of lives and property, disrupted livelihoods and worsened social tensions.

Describing the trend as coordinated, the forum alleged that extremist elements were deliberately targeting communities to undermine national stability.

It said such tactics were consistent with methods previously used by insurgent and criminal groups.

While extending condolences to victims, their families, the armed forces and affected communities, the ACF criticised what it called an inadequate security response, arguing that current efforts had not sufficiently deterred further attacks.

The organisation called for a comprehensive review of Nigeria’s security strategies and urged authorities to demonstrate stronger political will in confronting insecurity. It warned that failure to act promptly could have severe consequences for national stability.

“Unless the pervasive insecurity problem is confronted soonest, Nigeria risks a catastrophic and dangerous slide into avoidable widespread anarchy,” the statement said, urging government at all levels to prioritise security and take decisive action.
