The Edo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of all suspects involved in a viral bullying incident at Igbinedion Education Centre, assuring that they will be prosecuted in line with laws on juvenile justice and child protection.

In a statement issued on Saturday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Eno Ikoedem, the command said the arrests followed a thorough investigation into the incident, which sparked widespread public concern.

“The Edo State Police Command wishes to update the general public on the viral bullying incident… Following a thorough and painstaking investigation, the Command confirms that all individuals directly connected to the incident have been identified and apprehended,” the statement said.

According to the police, the suspects will be charged before a family court in accordance with extant laws guiding the treatment of minors.

Preliminary findings revealed that the incident began on March 5, 2026, when two 14-year-old female students had a disagreement with a fellow student, who allegedly made offensive remarks about their late father.

Angered by the comment, the girls reportedly attacked the student after school hours. During the altercation, a parent who intervened was also confronted by the students.

The school management subsequently expelled the two girls for violent conduct.

Police said the situation escalated the following day when a retaliatory attack occurred. The son of the assaulted parent allegedly attacked another student identified as the brother of the girls in what authorities described as a revenge assault. The incident was recorded and later circulated on social media.

In response, the Commissioner of Police ordered the immediate intensification of the Operation Safe Schools Initiative across secondary schools in the state to address lapses in supervision and prevent similar occurrences.

The command also deployed its Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices to schools, focusing on advocacy, sensitisation, and reorientation programmes for students and administrators.

The police urged parents, guardians, and school authorities to take greater responsibility for the supervision and moral upbringing of children, while advising students to avoid violence and report grievances through appropriate channels.

The Edo State Ministry of Education also condemned the incident, describing the behaviour as unacceptable and contrary to the values of discipline and safety expected in schools.

The school management confirmed the expulsion of the students involved and assured the public that measures have been put in place to prevent a recurrence.

The police reiterated their commitment to maintaining law and order and ensuring the safety and protection of children across the state.
