Leaders from Canada and the five Nordic nations Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, and Iceland have agreed to deepen cooperation on defence procurement, security, and military-industrial partnerships. The announcement came after a meeting in Oslo, Norway, aimed at building stronger alliances among “middle-power” countries.

Canadian Prime Minister, Mark Carney said the collaboration would ensure better value for taxpayers and stronger protection for their populations. He added that while partnerships with the United States will continue, the initiative broadens the scope to other countries.

The prime ministers also committed to providing ongoing economic, civilian, military, and humanitarian support to Ukraine. Denmark’s Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen stressed that a new world order is emerging and that nations must cooperate based on shared values.

Norway’s Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Stoere, who hosted the Oslo meeting, said the initiative will enhance security and open new avenues for economic growth.
