Mobile Magistrate’s Court sitting in Ogun State has convicted 20 motorists for various traffic violations during the second phase of an enforcement operation by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun State Command.
The court session, held at the Itori Unit Command, was presided over by Chief Magistrate O.T. Odusanya, who imposed different fines on the offenders.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday by the FRSC Sector Command spokesperson, Afolabi Odunsi-Oyewole.
According to the statement, the enforcement exercise targeted critical road safety infractions such as violation of speed-limiting device regulations, overloading, failure to use seatbelts, as well as offences relating to driver’s licences, tyres, vehicle licences, number plates and general vehicle maintenance.
Odunsi-Oyewole explained that a total of 40 traffic offences were recorded during the exercise, with 39 attracting fines, while none of the offenders was sentenced to imprisonment.
All the 20 motorists arraigned were convicted, with no discharge recorded.
Speaking during the court proceedings, the Ogun State Sector Commander of the FRSC, Akinwunmi Fasakin, said the mobile court initiative forms part of the command’s sustained enforcement strategy aimed at strengthening compliance with traffic regulations and reducing road crashes across the state.
Fasakin also commended the peaceful and orderly conduct of the exercise, noting that it received the necessary support from other security agencies.
However he urged motorists to embrace safe driving habits and ensure proper vehicle documentation to avoid preventable injuries and fatalities on the roads.
According to him, the mobile court operations are designed to serve as a deterrent to reckless driving and reaffirm the corps’ commitment to prosecuting road users who endanger lives.
