European truckmakers face increasing competition as Chinese electric heavy truck manufacturers plan major launches in Europe this year. Companies including BYD, Geely Farizon, Sany, Sinotruk, and startups Windrose and SuperPanther are entering the market.

Chinese trucks are expected to undercut European prices by up to 30%, leveraging China’s lower-cost EV and battery supply chain. Windrose’s Global E700 truck, for instance, will sell in Europe for around €250,000 ($295,250), compared with the €320,000 European average.

European manufacturers like Volvo Group, Daimler Trucks, and Traton are responding by lobbying the European Commission for incentives, including lower highway tolls and fleet electrification mandates, and investing in local production and R&D in China to remain competitive.

The entry of Chinese trucks is seen as a rapid technological leap, with models offering faster charging, longer ranges, and advanced features like centralized driver positioning for multi-market compatibility. European fleet owners are closely watching the price-performance advantage these new entrants offer.

The competitive push highlights a new phase in the electrification of heavy-duty freight across Europe, challenging legacy brands to innovate faster or risk losing market share.
