President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the renewal of the appointment of Professor Ayo Omotayo as Director-General of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, Plateau State.
According to the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, the renewal grants Prof. Omotayo a final term of four years at the helm of Nigeria’s foremost policy think tank.
Prof. Omotayo was first appointed to the position in November 2021 by former President Muhammadu Buhari, with the Senate confirming his appointment in February 2022.
An accomplished academic, Omotayo is a Professor of Environmental Sustainability. He obtained his PhD in Geography from the University of Ibadan, where he studied between 1980 and 1990.
He began his teaching career at Lagos State University (LASU) in 1985 and rose rapidly through the academic ranks, becoming a Senior Lecturer in 1992 at the age of 30. Over the years, he held several leadership positions at LASU, including serving as Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences from 2012 to 2017 and Director of the Centre for Planning before his appointment as NIPSS Director-General in 2021.
His renewed tenure is expected to consolidate ongoing reforms and strengthen the Institute’s role in shaping strategic policy direction and leadership development in Nigeria.
