France says it will work closely with China to push for de-escalation of the ongoing war involving Iran, as diplomatic efforts intensify to contain the widening conflict.

French Foreign Minister, Jean-Noel Barrot held talks on Monday with his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi, according to a statement from the French Foreign Ministry. Both sides agreed to pursue dialogue aimed at securing a political solution that would guarantee collective security while considering the aspirations of the Iranian people.

During the call, Barrot reiterated France’s position that Iran bears responsibility for the recent escalation after launching attacks on several countries in the region. He also criticized Tehran for failing to comply with resolutions of the United Nations Security Council concerning its nuclear programme, ballistic activities and support for non-state armed groups.

The French minister stressed that Paris was not involved in the military actions carried out by the United States and Israel, and had no prior knowledge of those operations. He underscored the importance of prioritising international institutions in resolving disputes and limiting the use of force.

Both ministers agreed to keep communication channels open as global concern grows over the humanitarian and economic consequences of the conflict. Diplomatic observers say coordination between major powers such as France and China could play a critical role in preventing further regional destabilization.
