The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Bauchi State Council, has confirmed the death of a cameraman with the Bauchi State Television Authority, Kabiru Ahmed, following injuries he sustained in a motor accident.

Ahmed died 23 days after he was involved in a road crash while on official assignment.

The NUJ State Chairman, Umar Sa’id, announced the sad development on Sunday in a message shared on journalists’ WhatsApp platforms in Bauchi, expressing deep sorrow over the loss.

“We just lost one of our colleagues among the two left in the Teaching Hospital, Kabiru Ahmed. May his soul rest in peace,” Sa’id said.

He disclosed that the funeral prayer for the late cameraman would be held at 2:00p.m. at the Bauchi Central Mosque (Masallacin Fadan Sarkin Bauchi).

His remains would thereafter be conveyed from the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) to his family residence in Ilale for burial.

“May Allah rest his soul and forgive all his shortcomings,” the NUJ chairman prayed.

Ahmed was among journalists covering the inauguration and handover of projects executed by the North-East Development Commission (NEDC) alongside the Minister of State for Regional Development, Uba Maigari, when the accident occurred on February 6, 2026.

Despite efforts by medical personnel at ATBUTH to save his life, Ahmed succumbed to his injuries.

His death came 17 days after another victim of the crash, Channels Television cameraman Kani Ben, also died while receiving treatment at the same hospital.

The deaths of the two journalists have cast a pall over the media community in Bauchi State, with colleagues mourning their loss and praying for the repose of their souls.
