President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has welcomed the official launch of Lebara Nigeria, describing it as a strong vote of confidence in the country’s digital economy and its potential as a leading technology and investment destination in Africa.

In a statement on Saturday signed by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President congratulated Lebara Nigeria on the milestone, noting that it reflects investor confidence and underscores Nigeria’s capacity to lead in technology and innovation across the continent.

President Tinubu highlighted the telecommunications sector as a key economic driver, citing a 5.78 percent year-on-year growth in Q3 2025 and an overall contribution of over 14 percent to the nation’s GDP.

He commended Lebara Nigeria’s leadership, including CEO, Mrs. Teniola Stuffman, for their commitment to expanding telecom access, creating jobs, and strengthening the country’s digital infrastructure.

“Investments of this nature are critical to deepening financial inclusion, enabling innovation, and accelerating economic growth,” the President said.

He also acknowledged the presence and support of the British High Commission, represented by Deputy High Commissioner Mr. Johny Baxter, highlighting the enduring economic and diplomatic ties between Nigeria and the United Kingdom.

Additionally, he recognized Otunba Bimbo Ashiru, Chairman of Lebara Nigeria’s Advisory Board, and other board members for their leadership and belief in Nigeria’s growth potential.

President Tinubu emphasized that initiatives like Lebara Nigeria contribute meaningfully to job creation, youth empowerment, enterprise development, and broader economic diversification.

He reiterated his administration’s commitment to fostering a stable, transparent, and investment-friendly environment where innovation and private enterprise can thrive.

Lebara Nigeria officially entered Africa’s largest telecoms market on Wednesday with a private soft launch and networking reception in Lagos, in partnership with the UK’s Department for Business and Trade and the British High Commission.

The launch follows groundwork laid in June 2025, when the company unveiled its 0724 dedicated number series and secured full interconnectivity with major mobile operators.

Speaking at the Lagos event, CEO Teniola Stuffman said: “Nigeria stands at a defining moment, a nation of extraordinary talent, resilience, and ambition, yet millions require more inclusive, more affordable, more globally connected digital access. Our entry into the market is driven by this conviction.”

President Tinubu wished Lebara Nigeria continued success as it begins commercial operations, encouraged collaboration between the public and private sectors to advance Nigeria’s digital transformation agenda.
