Delta State Government has approved the 2025 bursary awards for students in public and private tertiary institutions across Nigeria.
Executive Secretary of the State Bursary and Scholarship Board, Mr. Godfrey Enita, disclosed this during a meeting with the national executives of National Association of Delta State Students (NADESSTU).
Enita stated that the approval covers bursaries for eligible Delta students, scholarships for students with disabilities, children of deceased civil servants, and financial assistance for Delta indigenes attending the Nigerian Law School.
“I assure you that the Governor’s gesture is aimed at easing the financial burden on students and their families, particularly amid prevailing economic challenges,” he said.
He explained that the meeting followed concerns raised by students over delays in the 2025 bursary payments, assuring them that processing of payments had commenced.
“A total of 33,064 students will benefit from the 2025 bursary awards. In addition, 545 children of deceased civil servants and 51 students with disabilities will receive scholarships, while 533 Law School students will benefit from special assistance,” Enita stated.
He added that the financial support earlier approved by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for Delta students at the Nigerian Law School was also being processed.
According to Enita, the Oborevwori administration places a high premium on education as a key driver of sustainable development and human capital advancement.
In their remarks, NADESSTU President, Oweiotu-Ebi Joseph, and Senate President, Idiseru Alex, welcomed the approval and commended the governor for his continued support for students’ welfare.
They described the intervention as timely and impactful, noting that it would significantly ease the financial strain on beneficiaries and their families.
The student leaders also pledged their loyalty and continued support to the Delta State Government.
