Women in Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area have pledged active support for Governor Umo Eno’s development agenda, following a Women Sensitization Tour and Economic Empowerment programme held at the Council Headquarters.
The event ended with a collective resolve by the women to key into the administration’s cooperative-driven empowerment initiatives and broader development programmes.
Representing Governor Eno, the Deputy Governor, Senator Akon Eyakenyi, urged women to register under cooperative societies to enable them access traders’ grants, farmers’ grants, SME funding and other empowerment packages earmarked for 2026.
She emphasized that cooperative registration remains the most effective channel through which the state government disburses financial support and monitors impact.
“You must not allow the empowerment grants Governor Eno has prepared for 2026 to pass you by. Be business-minded, become skilled entrepreneurs and position yourselves properly through cooperatives,” she said.
Senator Eyakenyi also highlighted the need for women to obtain or renew their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), noting that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is currently conducting registration and renewal exercises. She further advised them to ensure they possess valid National Identification Numbers (NIN), explaining that cooperative registration and bank account opening require a NIN with proper identification details.
She encouraged political participation and support for the administration at the state and federal levels in forthcoming elections.
Conveying the Governor’s appreciation, the Coordinator of the Office of the First Lady, Lady Helen Eno Obareki, thanked the women for their show of solidarity and assured them of sustained welfare-focused initiatives.
