According to a statement issued by the Unit’s Public Relations Officer, Chief Superintendent of Customs Hussaini Abdullahi, the Comptroller conveyed the condolences of the Comptroller-General of Customs and the entire NCS to the widow, children and relatives of the deceased officer.
He assured the family that the Service remains committed to the welfare of its personnel, both serving and retired, and would stand by them during the difficult period.
Aliyu also disclosed that a thorough investigation into the incident was ongoing, stressing that the Service had mobilized all available resources to identify and apprehend those responsible.
“The Nigeria Customs Service will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that the perpetrators of this unfortunate incident are brought to book and made to face the full weight of the law,” he said.
ASC I Akiyode was shot dead in the early hours of Tuesday, February 3, 2026, when unknown gunmen ambushed customs operatives along the Ilara–Ijoun axis in Imeko-Afon Local Government Area of Ogun State while on official duty.
