Former Minority Leader of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Hon. Maria Ude Nwachi, has declared her intention to contest the Ebonyi South Senatorial seat in the 2027 National Assembly elections.
Nwachi, who represented Afikpo North-East Constituency between 2015 and 2019, made the declaration on Friday in Abuja after obtaining her expression of interest and nomination forms under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

She said her delayed declaration followed consultations with stakeholders and constituents across Ebonyi South Senatorial District.
According to her, the consultations were necessary to align with the aspirations of the people and develop a clear agenda for effective representation.
The former lawmaker said her decision to join the race was driven by a desire to provide impactful and people-centred representation in the National Assembly.
Nwachi added that she would adopt a community-based approach to governance if elected, stressing that leadership must be measured by its impact on citizens.
“I am contesting this election to touch lives, to further liberate my people and to unify them. I am running to restore transparency and accountability in the zone,” she said.
She expressed confidence in her competence and capacity to deliver effective representation, while calling on supporters to back her ambition.

“I possess the competence, credibility and capacity to deliver results,” she added.
The declaration marks the formal entry of the former legislator into the race for the Ebonyi South Senatorial District seat ahead of the 2027 general elections.
