The African Democratic Congress Presidential Campaign Council has said its presidential candidate, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, would run what it described as an accessible and responsive presidency if elected in 2027.
The council’s Director of Media and Publicity, Kola Ologbondiyan, made the statement on Monday in Abuja while receiving members of the Atiku Unity Movement, led by Francis Eburuwe.
Ologbondiyan said Nigeria required a president who would be physically available to address national challenges and take decisions when necessary.
“The country needs a President who understands the challenges confronting Nigerians and is physically available to respond to the demands of governance,” he said.
He argued that recent events had demonstrated the importance of having a president who remained accessible and able to respond promptly to developments affecting the country.
Ologbondiyan also highlighted proposals attributed to Atiku on the economy, saying the ADC candidate’s policy agenda would seek to address economic difficulties, improve citizens’ welfare and strengthen confidence in public institutions.
He recalled Atiku’s position during the 2023 presidential campaign that fuel subsidy removal should be implemented in phases to limit the economic impact on Nigerians.
According to Ologbondiyan, Atiku has also proposed measures aimed at addressing rising energy and living costs, including a production-based intervention for locally refined petroleum products.
He said such an intervention would be subject to spending limits, legislative approval and independent auditing.
Earlier, Eburuwe said the Atiku Unity Movement remained committed to supporting Atiku’s presidential bid and would mobilise voters across the country ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He said members of the movement would take the campaign’s message to communities across Nigeria and promote what the organisation described as the need for a change in the country’s political direction.
Eburuwe pledged the group’s support for the ADC presidential campaign and urged its members to intensify grassroots mobilisation.
The statements represent the positions of Atiku’s campaign and supporters as political parties and candidates step up activities ahead of the 2027 elections.
