The United States Department of the Treasury has imposed fresh sanctions on a senior official of Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood, alongside three individuals and three entities, over allegations of providing financial and logistical support to Hamas through international fundraising and money transfer networks.
The sanctions, announced on Thursday by the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), target Mahmoud Al-Ebiary, identified by U.S. authorities as a prominent Muslim Brotherhood leader based in the United Kingdom and serving as Secretary-General of the group’s General Secretariat.
According to the Treasury Department, Al-Ebiary participated in fundraising activities for organisations previously sanctioned by the United States over alleged links to Hamas and worked with Brotherhood-affiliated groups to channel financial support to the Palestinian militant group.

The U.S. government said the sanctions also cover two organisations it alleged were used as fronts to collect and transfer funds to Hamas’s military wing through charitable organisations, commercial businesses and informal financial networks.
Washington further alleged that some of the funds raised under the guise of humanitarian assistance for civilians were diverted to support Hamas’s military operations.
Under the sanctions, all assets and property belonging to designated individuals and entities within U.S. jurisdiction have been frozen, and American citizens and companies are prohibited from engaging in financial or commercial transactions with them.
The Treasury Department also warned that foreign financial institutions found facilitating significant transactions on behalf of the sanctioned individuals or organisations could face secondary sanctions, including restrictions on access to the U.S. financial system.

According to the department, the measures were implemented in coordination with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and U.S. Customs and Border Protection as part of broader efforts to disrupt financial networks that Washington says support Hamas.
The sanctions form part of ongoing U.S. actions aimed at targeting organisations and individuals accused of financing terrorism and disrupting the financial infrastructure allegedly used to support Hamas’ activities.
