United States Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has said airlines, the maritime sector and digital asset platforms could become potential targets as the Trump administration expands efforts to increase economic pressure on Iran.
Bessent made the comments during an interview with Fox News after a G20 gathering in North Carolina, where he discussed measures aimed at restricting support for Tehran.
The Treasury Secretary warned countries and companies against providing assistance to the Iranian government, saying continued external support could prolong the conflict.
“My message to everyone is stay away. We all want this conflict to end, and the fastest way for the conflict to end is for no one to provide any support to this regime,” Bessent said.
The comments came a day after Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed support for Iran, prompting further warnings from Washington toward countries involved in supporting Tehran.
Bessent said the administration was holding discussions with entities accused of supporting Iran and indicated that additional sanctions could be announced.
He also said airline leasing companies could face possible restrictions, while further sanctions targeting Iranian financial institutions were expected to be considered.
The Trump administration’s measures are part of a broader campaign aimed at limiting Iran’s access to international financial networks and economic resources.
