President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a minor reshuffle in the Federal Executive Council (FEC), resulting in the exit of two ministers and the appointment of new officials to key positions in government.

The development was contained in a memo signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, on April 20, 2026.

According to the memo, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, and the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, are to exit the cabinet as part of the changes.

In the new arrangement, Mr. Taiwo Oyedele, who previously served as Minister of State in the Ministry of Finance, has been elevated to take over as Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy.

Also, Dr. Muttaqha Rabe Darma has been named as Minister-Designate for the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, pending confirmation and formal assumption of office.

The SGF directive further instructed that all handing over and taking over processes between outgoing and incoming officials be completed on or before Thursday, April 23, 2026.

Explaining the rationale behind the changes, Senator Akume said the reshuffle was aimed at strengthening coordination within the cabinet and improving the delivery of the administration’s economic and development agenda under the Renewed Hope framework.

He noted that President Tinubu acted in line with Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which empower the President to appoint and reassign ministers.

The President, according to the statement, expressed appreciation to the outgoing ministers for their service to the nation and wished them success in their future endeavours, while reaffirming that further adjustments to improve governance performance remain ongoing.

The reshuffle marks one of the latest adjustments to the Federal Executive Council as the Tinubu administration continues to fine-tune its cabinet structure to address economic and sectoral priorities.
