The media team of the Sultan of Sokoto has dismissed claims suggesting that the revered traditional ruler has endorsed President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid, insisting that the monarch remains a father figure to all Nigerians regardless of political affiliation.
In a statement, the Sultan’s media office rejected reports linking the traditional institution to partisan politics, stressing that the Sultan maintains neutrality and serves the interests of every Nigerian.
According to the statement, the Sultan’s role as the spiritual leader of Nigerian Muslims and a respected national figure requires him to remain impartial in political matters.
“The Sultan remains a father to all Nigerians equally,” the media team stated, dismissing speculation that he had publicly backed President Tinubu’s second-term ambition.
The clarification comes amid growing political activities and alignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, with various public figures and groups expressing support for different political actors.
The Sultan of Sokoto is widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s most influential traditional and religious leaders, often playing key roles in promoting national unity, peace and interfaith dialogue.
As political campaigns gradually gather momentum, the Sultan’s media team reiterated that the monarch’s commitment remains focused on fostering harmony and serving all Nigerians without bias.
