Vice President Kashim Shettima has opted for a low-key celebration as he marks his 60th birthday on September 2, 2026.
The Vice President, in a statement issued on Saturday by his
Senior Special Assistant on Media & Communications, Stanley Nkwochebe, has appealed to friends, associates and well-wishers to refrain from placing congratulatory advertisements in newspapers or airing celebratory messages on radio, television and digital platforms.
Shettima said his decision reflected his conviction that public attention should remain focused on the serious task of national development rather than personal celebrations.
He also appealed against public birthday celebrations, congratulatory gatherings and goodwill advertorials across print, broadcast and digital media platforms.
Instead, the Vice President urged well-wishers to channel their goodwill into prayers for Nigeria and the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He specifically called for prayers for the success of the administration’s economic reforms, lasting solutions to Nigeria’s security challenges, greater national unity, peace and prosperity.
Shettima said the occasion should serve as an opportunity for reflection, gratitude and renewed commitment to the service of the nation rather than an elaborate celebration of a personal milestone.
