The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested two men for allegedly assaulting police officers and obstructing them during an enforcement operation in Bauchi metropolis.
The suspects, identified as Friday, whose surname was not disclosed, and Yunana Ali, were arrested on Saturday, October 3, along Yelwa Road by operatives of the command’s ‘E’ Division Patrol Team.
Police Public Relations Officer SP Nafiu Habib said the incident occurred at about 9 a.m. while officers were carrying out routine enforcement under Operation Velvet.

According to the police, officers stopped a vehicle driven by Friday and requested the vehicle’s particulars.
The command alleged that the suspects refused to comply with the officers’ request and became hostile, leading to a confrontation.
Police further alleged that the officers were assaulted during the incident and that the uniform of a police inspector was torn.
The two suspects were subsequently taken into custody at the ‘E’ Division, where an investigation was opened into the circumstances surrounding the confrontation.
Bauchi State Commissioner of Police Sani-Omolori Aliyu condemned the alleged attack and warned against obstructing officers carrying out lawful duties.
Aliyu urged members of the public who have complaints about the conduct of police personnel to seek redress through established channels rather than confront officers.

The command said the suspects would be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.
It also urged residents to remain law-abiding and cooperate with security personnel during lawful checks and enforcement operations.
