The Osun State Police Command has arrested a suspect in connection with the killing of Olalekan Oyeyemi, popularly known as Emir Ajagungbade, an Accord Party chieftain and political associate of Governor Ademola Adeleke.
Oyeyemi was shot dead on September 13 during violence at the Mayfair Motor Park in Ile-Ife, amid a dispute linked to the control and leadership of motor parks in the state.
Police subsequently launched an investigation into the killing, while Governor Adeleke directed security agencies to identify and arrest those responsible.

The police later confirmed the arrest of Waliyi Adejare, popularly known as Jay Jay, as part of the investigation.
Osun State Police spokesperson Abiodun Ojelabi said Adejare was arrested in the Oke Baale area of Osogbo and was being investigated to determine his alleged involvement in Oyeyemi’s death.
Police have stressed that the arrest does not establish guilt and that investigations are continuing to identify everyone who may have played a role in the incident.
The killing followed tensions surrounding the management of motor parks in Ile-Ife. Authorities have not yet publicly established the full circumstances of the shooting or identified all those responsible.
A day after Oyeyemi’s death, police recovered another body from the Mayfair Motor Park while enforcing the state government’s directive restricting activities at the facility.
The second victim’s identity and the circumstances surrounding the death were not immediately disclosed.

Following the violence, Adeleke ordered rival groups to vacate motor parks and garages and announced plans to introduce a Park Management System aimed at restoring order to transport facilities across the state.
The governor also directed security agencies to maintain peace and ensure that anyone found responsible for the violence is brought to justice.
Police said the investigation into Oyeyemi’s killing remains ongoing, with efforts continuing to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and determine the involvement of individual suspects.
