Former Chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), Sam Amadi, has questioned the credibility of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), arguing that the commission has failed to provide convincing explanations for its inability to electronically transmit election results.
Speaking on News Central Television on Friday, Amadi said public trust in INEC’s voter registration and election management systems has been severely undermined by the controversies surrounding the 2023 elections and the failure of the BVAS system to transmit results as promised.
According to him, many Nigerians suspect that the failure to electronically transmit results was not merely a technical issue but may have involved internal sabotage.

Amadi noted that INEC had repeatedly assured Nigerians before the election that its technology was ready and capable of delivering transparent results. However, on election day, the commission attributed the failure of result transmission to a technical glitch without providing concrete evidence to support the claim.
He argued that opposition parties should prioritise demanding an independent forensic audit of INEC’s systems to determine what actually happened and restore public confidence.
Amadi maintained that without transparency and accountability, Nigerians have little reason to trust the integrity of INEC’s voter register or its election technology infrastructure. He stressed that credible elections depend on reliable systems and verifiable explanations whenever failures occur.
