Methodist Church Nigeria, Ikono Diocese, held its 33rd Synod plenary session in a grand and spiritually enriching atmosphere, attracting dignitaries and church leaders from across the country and beyond.
The session, which focused on the growth and mission of the Church, was formally declared open on behalf of Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, Justice Inyang Okoro. The Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Lands, Elder (Dr) Ubong Inyang, represented the eminent jurist at the event.
Speaking as Special Guest of Honour, the Member representing Ikono/Ini Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Ukpongudo, PhD, commended the Diocese for its dedication to spiritual development and community impact, urging members to sustain the tempo.
Delivering the keynote address, Rev. Elijah Udo Akpan, who joined the Synod from the United States of America, charged the Church to remain steadfast in faith, service, and evangelism despite the challenges of a rapidly changing world.
The event also featured notable personalities including the Immediate Past Vice-Chancellor of the University of Uyo, Prof. Nyaudo Ndaeyo, who served as Father of the Day, while Lady Mary Ekanem was honoured as Mother of the Day.
Providing spiritual leadership at the gathering were the Archbishop of Uyo, Most Rev. John Koko-Bassey, and the Bishop of Ibakesi Diocese, Rt. Rev. Edet Udoekong, alongside other clergy. They offered goodwill messages, applauding the unity, vision, and steady progress of the Ikono Diocese, while expressing confidence in divine guidance and victory in the year ahead.
