The Lagos State Government says it has demolished 17 illegal structures and sealed 52 others across the state in a renewed enforcement drive aimed at strengthening compliance with physical planning regulations.

The Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr Oluyinka Olumide, disclosed this during the 2026 Ministerial Press Briefing held in Alausa, Ikeja, marking the seventh anniversary of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration.

He said the enforcement actions were carried out after investigations into multiple complaints and disputes related to building developments across the state.

According to him, the ministry received 987 petitions within the review period, out of which 399 were resolved through mediation and compliance enforcement, while 519 cases remain under investigation.

“As part of our enforcement activities, 17 structures were removed and 52 others sealed for various planning infractions,” Olumide said.

He explained that the measures were part of ongoing efforts to reduce illegal developments, minimise disputes, and improve public confidence in the state’s urban planning system.

The commissioner also highlighted progress in urban development planning, noting the completion of key master plans for Lagos Island, Ibeju-Lekki, and Badagry to guide future growth and infrastructure development.

He added that 205 housing estates were inspected to ensure compliance with approved layouts and planning standards, while 176 illegal estates were published to warn unsuspecting property buyers.

Olumide further disclosed that over 21,000 planning permit applications were received within the period, with more than 17,000 approved.

He said a temporary amnesty programme and the introduction of an electronic planning permit system had improved compliance, efficiency, and transparency in the building approval process across the state.
