The Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to investing in initiatives that improve workers’ welfare, boost productivity and strengthen the state’s public service.
The governor made the remarks while declaring open the 48th National Council on Establishments (NCE) Delegates Meeting, tagged “Rivers 2026,” held in Port Harcourt.
Fubara said his administration has continued to prioritise the welfare of civil servants through policies aimed at improving their working conditions and overall wellbeing.
Rismadarvoice Reporters gathered that the state government is implementing a ₦85,000 minimum wage, which is above the national minimum wage approved by the Federal Government.
According to the governor, his administration has also maintained the prompt payment of workers’ salaries, regular promotions, pensions and gratuities as part of efforts to motivate the workforce and enhance service delivery.
Fubara further disclosed that the state government is constructing a modern state secretariat complex to provide a conducive working environment for civil servants.
He said the project has reached an advanced stage and would further improve efficiency and productivity within the public service upon completion.
The governor also advocated sustained reforms in the public service, emphasising the need for strategic capacity building, institutional reforms and digital transformation to meet the demands of modern governance.
He stressed that embracing innovation and technology is essential to building an efficient and responsive public service capable of delivering quality services to citizens.
In her remarks, the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs Didi Esther Walson-Jack, commended Governor Fubara for his administration’s commitment to improving workers’ welfare and strengthening the public service in Rivers State.
She described the National Council on Establishments as the apex policy-making body responsible for public service structures, schemes of service and conditions of service in Nigeria.
Walson-Jack noted that the council plays a critical role in shaping policies that promote efficiency, professionalism and improved service delivery across the country’s public service.
