In a renewed effort to tackle electricity challenges and improve power supply across Akwa Ibom State, Governor Umo Eno has inaugurated five commissioners into the newly established Akwa Ibom State Electricity Regulatory Commission.
The inauguration ceremony, held on Wednesday, June 4, 2026, at the Government House Banquet Hall, Uyo, marks a significant step in the state’s drive to strengthen electricity regulation, attract investment into the power sector, and enhance supply reliability.
Speaking at the event, Governor Eno acknowledged the persistent power supply difficulties faced by residents and expressed optimism that meaningful progress would be achieved within the next 18 months.
He said the establishment of the commission and the appointment of its leadership reflect his administration’s determination to build a functional electricity market that ensures efficiency, accountability, and improved service delivery.

Governor Eno further directed the commission to submit its budget within two weeks, noting that its mandate should commence immediately in line with the administration’s urgency to address the sector’s challenges.
He also urged residents to cultivate a culture of prompt payment of electricity bills, stressing that sustained power supply would depend on collective responsibility and financial discipline within the system.
Commending the State House of Assembly for the passage of the Electricity Law, the governor described the development as a foundation for reforms aimed at driving economic growth and improving infrastructure across the state.
In her response, the Chairman of the Commission, Mrs Arit Uya, thanked the governor for the confidence reposed in the team and pledged the commission’s commitment to professionalism, diligence, and effective delivery of its mandate.
A key highlight of the event was the signing of the Code of Conduct and Ethics by the commissioners, alongside the formal presentation of their letters of appointment.

The newly inaugurated commissioners include Mrs Arit Uya (Chairman), Dr Lalu Ukoha (Vice Chairman), Engr. Ubong Etukudoh (Engineering Commissioner), Dr Valerie Obot (Finance and Corporate Support Commissioner), and Mr Paul Okon (Economic Regulation Commissioner).
