Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has charged members of the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream II National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, deployed to the state to be agents of positive change in their host communities and places of primary assignment.
Governor Eno gave the charge on Wednesday at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Ikot Itie Idung, Nsit Atai Local Government Area, during the closing ceremony of the orientation course.
Represented by the Deputy Governor, Senator Akon Eyakenyi, the Governor urged the corps members to uphold the legacy of their predecessors through ethical conduct, humility, loyalty and selfless service.
He described the orientation course as an important component of the NYSC scheme designed to instil leadership qualities, discipline and a sense of responsibility among young graduates.
Governor Eno urged the corps members to actively promote civic responsibility, peaceful coexistence and the collective pursuit of a united and prosperous society.
The Governor assured them of the peaceful and hospitable nature of Akwa Ibom, urging them to respect the socio-cultural values of their host communities and build relationships that could extend beyond their service year.
He also advised the corps members to prioritise their safety, particularly when travelling, warning them against night journeys.
Governor Eno directed that journeys extending beyond 6 p.m. should terminate at a corps lodge, police station or military barracks. He further advised them to use designated motor parks, share their travel plans with family members and make use of emergency contact numbers provided by the NYSC.
The Governor said the state government provides additional support to corps members alongside their federal allowance, in recognition of their contributions to the ARISE Agenda, particularly in education, healthcare and community development.
