Emergency response teams from the Palestinian Civil Defence have recovered the remains of 55 individuals from under the debris of a residential property in the A neighbourhood, located east of Gaza City.
The victims were identified as members of the Malka family, who had sought shelter in the building approximately two years ago after being displaced by Israeli military bombardments.
According to project supervisor Colonel Mohammed Abu Dan, civil defence personnel conducted search and rescue efforts over a 72-hour period in pursuit of more than 60 individuals reported missing under the structural ruins.
Having retrieved the majority of the victims, emergency authorities confirmed that a joint public funeral procession will take place early next week.
Civil defence officials reiterated that recovery operations across the territory continue to face severe operational bottlenecks due to a critical lack of heavy machinery, excavators, and fuel required to clear heavy concrete debris.
Humanitarian agencies estimate that thousands of missing individuals remain buried beneath collapsed structures throughout Gaza due to the inability of rescue workers to access targeted sites with standard emergency tools.
