At least four people lost their lives after a truck reportedly suffered brake failure and rammed into roadside shops along the Gombe-Kumo Road near Mile Uku Sabuwa, close to the Biu Roundabout.
Eyewitnesses said the truck, which was carrying assorted food items, lost control while the driver was attempting to make a U-turn.
According to reports, the vehicle suddenly veered off the road and crashed into shops and pedestrians in the area, causing multiple casualties.
One of the victims was said to be a woman who was inside her shop at the time of the incident. Several other persons also sustained varying degrees of injuries.
Residents, sympathisers and emergency responders quickly gathered at the scene to rescue victims, with many using their bare hands during the rescue efforts as panic and grief spread across the area.
