The All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in Rivers State, Hon. Kingsley O.K. Chinda, has visited communities affected by recent flooding, pledging measures to address the recurring problem if elected governor in 2027.
During the visit, Chinda interacted with residents and assessed the impact of the flooding on homes, businesses and other sources of livelihood.
He expressed concern over the difficulties facing affected residents and said recurring flooding in parts of Rivers State required a coordinated and long-term response.
Chinda said his proposed administration would prioritise measures aimed at addressing the underlying causes of flooding rather than relying solely on emergency interventions after disasters occur.
According to him, improved drainage systems, flood-control infrastructure and other long-term measures would form part of his proposed approach to reducing the vulnerability of communities to flooding.
He also stressed the need for timely assistance to residents affected by emergencies, particularly families displaced or whose livelihoods have been disrupted.
Chinda expressed sympathy with flood victims and pledged interventions aimed at alleviating their immediate difficulties.
The APC candidate urged residents of the affected communities to remain hopeful, saying their concerns deserved attention alongside efforts to develop lasting solutions to recurrent flooding in the state.
