The body of a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Okebaram Stanley Chimaroke, who was reported missing in Bayelsa State, has been recovered under circumstances yet to be clarified.

Chimaroke, a Civil Engineering graduate and former President of the Students’ Union Government (SUG) of the Federal Polytechnic, Nekede, was serving in Nembe Local Government Area when he reportedly went missing.

Sources familiar with the incident said the 27-year-old corps member was declared missing before his lifeless body was later discovered in a body of water within the Nembe community.

Although the circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear, some sources alleged that Chimaroke may have been attacked by unidentified persons before his disappearance. However, the claim had not been independently confirmed by the police as of the time of filing this report.

The Bayelsa State Police Command had earlier commenced a search operation after receiving a report that the corps member could not be located.

According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, the case was reported to the police at about 8:40 p.m. on July 25, 2026, by a fellow corps member, Aribisola Bisi Isaac, who was accompanied by Adeola Marvellous.

Police sources said the Local Government Inspector informed officers that Chimaroke, who was serving in the Nembe Creek area, was last seen at about 8:00 p.m. on July 24.

Efforts by colleagues and associates to reach him through his mobile telephone lines were reportedly unsuccessful, raising concerns and prompting a formal report to security authorities.

Following the complaint, police operatives were deployed to the creek community, which is said to be about 45 minutes by boat from the Nembe Divisional Headquarters, to begin a search operation and investigate the circumstances surrounding his disappearance.

As of the time of filing this report, the Bayelsa State Police Command had yet to issue an official statement confirming the recovery of Chimaroke’s body or disclose the cause and circumstances of his death.
