The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Yilwatda, has commenced a two-week vacation outside Nigeria following an intensive first year in office.
According to a statement issued by his office on Wednesday, the APC chairman will use the break to rest, retool and reflect on the party’s strategy ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Mr Yilwatda assumed office in July 2025 and has since been involved in extensive party engagements, consultations, travels and strategic activities aimed at strengthening the ruling party.
The statement said the national chairman has worked with the National Working Committee, governors, National Assembly members, state party structures, elected officials and other stakeholders to build a stronger and more cohesive party.
It added that the APC under his leadership had organised and concluded its National Convention, strengthened its internal structures and conducted primary elections at various levels ahead of the 2027 elections.
The party described the achievements as significant steps in consolidating its position as Nigeria’s leading political party.
The statement said the vacation would also allow Mr Yilwatda to reflect on the next phase of the APC’s development and finalise plans for the forthcoming National Working Committee retreat.
The retreat is expected to provide an opportunity for the NWC to review the party’s activities, identify emerging challenges and develop strategies for the months ahead.
According to the statement, the chairman’s temporary absence from Nigeria would not affect the operations of the party, as the NWC would continue to carry out its responsibilities in line with the APC constitution and established procedures.
Mr Yilwatda is expected to return to Nigeria after the two-week break and resume his official engagements with renewed focus ahead of the 2027 elections.
