The ancient city of Akure is set to witness thrilling basketball action as the Southwest Basketball Association prepares to host the highly anticipated Asiwaju Renewed Hope Southwest 3×3 Basketball Challenge.
The championship, scheduled to be held at Democracy Park, Oja Oba, Akure, will feature some of the best basketball talents drawn from the six Southwest states Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ondo and Ekiti in a competition expected to showcase skill, speed and intense rivalry.

According to Olumide Oyedeji, teams are expected to arrive on May 15, while matches will commence on May 16 ahead of the grand finale slated for May 17.
Oyedeji explained that the tournament is designed to promote grassroots basketball development and strengthen the growing culture of 3×3 basketball across the Southwest region.
The event is being powered by the Honourable Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, whose support organisers described as a major contribution to youth empowerment and sports development in the region.
Basketball enthusiasts are already anticipating an exciting tournament, with players expected to deliver electrifying performances, sharp shooting and highly competitive court battles throughout the three-day event.
Organisers also noted that the colourful branding of the championship reflects the spirit of unity and sporting collaboration among the Southwest states, reinforcing the role of sports in youth engagement, talent discovery and regional integration.

Head of the Organising Committee, Oyedeji, assured fans and stakeholders of a well-coordinated competition, promising top-class entertainment and an atmosphere befitting one of the biggest grassroots basketball tournaments in the Southwest.
