Business activities returned to normal at Onitsha Main Market on Monday, Feb 2, as traders reopened their shops, ending a one-week closure imposed by the Anambra State Government.
The temporary shutdown, aimed at addressing sanitation and regulatory concerns, disrupted trade across the market; one of Nigeria’s busiest commercial hubs.
Market authorities confirmed that all sections are now operational, with traders resuming sales of foodstuffs, electronics, textiles, other commodities.
Shoppers welcomed the reopening, noting the importance of the market to both local commerce and the wider regional economy. Market officials urged traders to maintain hygiene standards, comply with government directives to avoid future closures.
