The Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), Oyo State Command, has arrested a 28-year-old housewife over alleged involvement in human trafficking.
In a statement made available to journalists on Saturday in Ibadan, the Command’s spokesperson, Mr Samuel Opebiyi, disclosed that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the suspect’s accomplice and husband, who is currently at large.
Opebiyi stated that the suspect and her husband allegedly trafficked a 17-year-old girl to Côte d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast) for prostitution.
He explained that the suspect was arrested on January 22, following a report filed by the victim’s sister at the Command’s Anti-Human Trafficking Unit.
According to him, preliminary investigations revealed that the offence was committed on November 25, 2025, when the suspect and her husband allegedly orchestrated the trafficking of the victim to Libya for prostitution.
“While investigations into the full details and network of the illicit operation are still ongoing, the Command confirmed that the victim was allegedly lured with false promises before being trafficked abroad,” Opebiyi said.
He added that investigations further established that the victim was introduced to the alleged syndicate through one Rodiat, an apprentice at the suspect’s shop, where she sells shoes, bags, and other accessories, located at Ifeleye, Ogunpa Market, Ibadan.
“The victim reportedly approached Rodiat in search of a job opportunity, after which she was introduced to the suspects,” he said.
Opebiyi quoted the Oyo State NSCDC Commandant, Mr Augustine Padonu, as urging members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities related to human trafficking to the NSCDC or other relevant agencies for swift action.
Padonu reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to combating human trafficking and related offences, noting that efforts would continue to be intensified to rescue victims and ensure that all individuals involved in such crimes are brought to justice.
He added that the suspect would be charged to court, while efforts are being intensified to arrest the fleeing husband.
