The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has advised corps members to respect local customs, remain committed to their duties, be resourceful, maintain punctuality at their places of primary assignment, while contributing meaningfully to Nigeria’s socio-economic development.

According to a post on the NYSC National Directorate Headquarters (NDHQ) X handle on Saturday, Nafiu gave the advice while addressing 2026 Batch ‘A’ Stream One corps members at the orientation camps in Ogun and Oyo states.

He commended the corps members for answering the call to serve the nation, urged them to manage their finances prudently, noting that sound financial discipline would support them going forward.

The NYSC boss further cautioned them to respect the traditions of their host communities and uphold good conduct throughout their service.

“When you are posted to your place of primary assignment, respect their rules, be punctual, be resourceful, and learn the culture of the organisation you are posted to,” Nafiu said.

Earlier, the NYSC Ogun State Coordinator, Mrs Olayinka Nasamu, informed the Director-General that 3,341 corps members, including 975 initially deployed to Lagos State, were registered at the camp. She noted that the corps members had “conducted themselves responsibly and adapted well to the regimented camp life,” adding that camp officials were also discharging their duties diligently with a high sense of synergy.

In Oyo State, the NYSC Coordinator, Mr Kayode Ola-Peters, disclosed that 3,068 registered corps members had displayed commendable character, actively participated in camp activities, and demonstrated readiness to contribute to national development across various sectors.

The National Youth Service Corps had earlier announced that the 2026 Batch ‘A’ Stream I Orientation Course commenced nationwide on Wednesday, January 21, across all 37 NYSC orientation camps.

According to the scheme, camp registration for corps members took place from Wednesday, January 21, to midnight of Friday, January 23, 2026. The swearing-in ceremony was held on Friday, January 23, while the closing ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday, February 10, 2026.
