The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a suspected car snatcher and recovered a stolen vehicle following a swift night patrol operation in Uyo.
The arrest occurred on January 20, 2026, at about 11:30p.m., after police operatives on routine patrol along the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium axis responded to a distress call from a Bolt driver who reported that he had been robbed of his Toyota Corolla vehicle.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, the victim reported that the suspects dispossessed him of the vehicle during the incident before fleeing the scene.
Although the suspects escaped initially, prompt intelligence-led operations enabled the police to trace the stolen vehicle to Nkwot Ikono Village in Etim Ekpo Local Government Area.
A suspect, identified as Sunday Okon, a male from Nna Enin Village in Uruan Local Government Area, was arrested in possession of the stolen Toyota Corolla with registration number DKA 337 CB. The suspect reportedly confessed to the crime during preliminary interrogation.
DSP John disclosed that the suspect is currently in police custody, while discreet and intensive investigations are ongoing to apprehend other members of the criminal gang and recover weapons allegedly used in the operation.
Commending the operatives for their swift response and professionalism, the Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State Command, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, fsi, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to tackling violent crimes and ensuring the safety of lives and property across the state.
