Some Russian airlines were on Monday forced to cancel several flights following a nationwide outage of the Leonardo booking system, according to the Russian Ministry of Transport.
The ministry confirmed that the technical problem, which has now been fixed, affected flight booking operations across the country, leading to disruptions in airline schedules and passenger travel plans.
Earlier in the day, major airlines including Russia’s national carrier, Aeroflot, had warned passengers of possible delays, rescheduling and cancellations – due to the system failure.

The ministry confirmed that the technical problem, which has now been fixed, affected flight booking operations across the country, leading to disruptions in airline schedules and passenger travel plans.
Earlier in the day, major airlines including Russia’s national carrier, Aeroflot, had warned passengers of possible delays, rescheduling and cancellations due to the system failure.
Although the transport ministry did not disclose the specific airlines or routes affected, it stated that officials would meet later to assess the situation and reduce the impact on passengers.
Russian state industrial corporation Rostec explained that the outage was caused by an internal technical fault at Sirena Travel, the service provider responsible for the Leonardo booking platform.
It will be recalled that Aeroflot suffered a major cyber attack in July last year which disrupted flights across the country, with two Ukrainian hacker groups later claiming responsibility for the incident.
Authorities have assured passengers that measures are being taken to prevent a recurrence and improve the reliability of airline booking systems nationwide. that officials would meet later to assess the situation and reduce the impact on passengers.
