Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno on Monday commissioned modern oil palm processing mills in Oku Abak, across all 11 wards of Abak Local Government Area.
The project aims to empower rural women, helping them shift from traditional manual methods to large-scale, income-generating palm oil production.
The initiative is implemented under the Nigeria for Women Project (NFWP), supported by the World Bank.
It has mobilized over 39,000 women into cooperative clusters, with each mill capable of processing up to 10 tonnes of palm fruits daily.
Governor Eno also announced a ₦890 million revolving loan fund to support women cooperatives, an additional ₦450 million as counterpart funding.
The injection of funds is intended to expand the programme statewide, strengthen livelihoods, and advance the rural development objectives of the ARISE Agenda.
This initiative underscores the state government’s commitment to boosting rural economies, promoting women’s entrepreneurship and driving sustainable development in Akwa Ibom.
