Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has approved the maintenance of 83 roads within Uyo metropolis and the full rehabilitation of Aka Itiam Road.
The approval followed briefings by the Ministry of Works at the ongoing ministerial review sessions in Uyo.
Governor Eno directed that all failed portions on the affected roads be fixed immediately, stressing that the repairs must be completed before the end of the dry season.
He disclosed that Amitec Construction and Development Limited has already been mobilised for the job.
Among the roads listed for maintenance are Oron Road, Ikot Ekpene Road, Abak Road, Clement Isong Road, Port Harcourt Street, parts of Nsikak Eduok Avenue, Plaza Bypass, Itam Junction Roundabout, Johnson Street off Aka Road, Ekpenyong Street, as well as roads around D’Angelo Hotel and the EFCC office in Ewet Housing Estate.
The Governor also approved the full rehabilitation of Aka Itiam Road.
In the social sector, Governor Eno approved the first-quarter distribution of food items to vulnerable persons across the state, with the exercise scheduled for the forthcoming Easter period.
For the education sector, the Governor gave approval for the payment of first and second term subventions to public primary, secondary and technical schools.
He also approved the payment of WAEC, NABTEB and science practical fees for SS3 and ST3 students of Akwa Ibom State origin in public schools, as well as the procurement of uniforms, shoes, bags and socks for pupils in model primary schools.
In the health sector, Governor Eno approved all counterpart funding for 2025 health interventions, including health insurance, primary healthcare, immunisation, family planning and nutrition programmes.
The Governor also approved the release of funds for the 2024 Medical Residency Training Programme, the revitalization of the State Central Medical Stores, and the issuance of appointment letters to newly engaged contract health workers.
Governor Eno, who declared a state of emergency in the health sector last year, commended the Ministry of Health for reforms and milestones recorded in 2025 and urged the ministry to sustain the momentum in 2026.
