Elon Musk has announced that X will make its new algorithm fully open source within the next seven days, including all recommendation system code.
The announcement comes amid mounting criticism over X’s Grok AI chatbot, which has been accused of enabling deepfake image manipulation, including the creation of harmful content involving women and children.
Musk said opening the algorithm is part of efforts to improve transparency and public trust in how content is recommended and moderated on the platform.
The move is expected to allow developers, researchers and the public to scrutinise how X’s systems work, as debates intensify globally over AI safety, misuse of generative tools and platform accountability.
