Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to the actualization of the Ibom Deep Seaport project, describing it as a critical infrastructure that will boost the state’s economy and transform the region.
Governor Eno stated this during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Akwa Ibom State Government and the Interaf Group Consortium at the Government House, Uyo.
Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah, the Governor stressed the importance of the project and urged the consortium to work closely with the Akwa Ibom Investment Corporation (AKICORP), the government’s designated representative, to ensure the timely and successful execution of the project.
He noted that the Ibom Deep Seaport is a necessity for the people of Akwa Ibom State, assured that his administration is fully committed to putting all necessary requirements in place to ensure the project stays on course.
Governor Eno commended the Interaf Group for its interest in the project and also praised former Minister of Petroleum, Atuekong Don Etiebet, for being part of the initiative and contributing to efforts aimed at actualising the long-awaited facility in the state.
Speaking at the event, Atuekong Etiebet lauded Governor Eno’s visionary and impactful leadership, which he said has significantly transformed Akwa Ibom State. He described the signing of the MoU as a major milestone in the development of the Ibom Deep Seaport, a project first conceived in 2007.
On his part, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Interaf Group Consortium, Engr. Ezinwa Chinedu Ibekwe, expressed appreciation to the state government for the confidence reposed in the consortium. He assured the government of the group’s readiness to deliver on its mandate, pledging a collaborative approach to ensure the success of the project.
The highlight of the ceremony was the formal signing of the MoU between the Akwa Ibom State Government and Interaf Group Consortium, which outlines the modalities and preliminary framework for collaboration in the development and operation of the Ibom Deep Seaport and the Ibom Industrial City.
