The Adamawa State Police Command has begun enforcement of a ban on power bike and vehicle racing across the state, warning motorists, commercial drivers and motorcycle riders to exercise caution, adhere strictly to traffic regulations.

The command said reckless driving, speeding, dangerous overtaking and illegal racing involving power bikes and vehicles have been identified as major causes of fatal road traffic accidents recorded in the state.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Suleiman Nguroje.

According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police, Dankombo Morris, expressed serious concern over the rising number of dangerous and fatal road accidents on major highways and urban roads across Adamawa State.

“The Adamawa State Police Command has observed with serious concern the increasing cases of fatal and dangerous road traffic accidents recorded across major highways and urban roads within the state,” the statement read.

Nguroje said the command has intensified efforts to enforce the ban on power bike and vehicle racing on all public roads, warning that such activities pose grave danger to lives and property.

“Consequently, the Command has geared up to enforce the ban on power bike racing and vehicle racing on all public roads across Adamawa State, as such acts pose grave danger to lives and property,” the statement added.

It warned that any individual or group found engaging in illegal racing would be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

The command said officers from the Central Motor Traffic Division, Divisional Police Officers, and other operational units have been directed to intensify patrols, surveillance and enforcement across major highways, urban roads and identified flashpoints in the state.

The police also called on members of the public to support road safety efforts by promptly reporting cases of reckless driving and other traffic violations. Parents, transport unions and vehicle owners were urged to caution drivers and riders under their supervision on the dangers of irresponsible behaviour on the roads.

“The Commissioner of Police strongly cautions all motorists, commercial drivers, motorcycle riders and other road users to strictly adhere to traffic rules and regulations at all times,” the statement emphasised.

The Adamawa State Police Command said the measures form part of its ongoing efforts to safeguard lives and property and promote responsible use of roads across the state.
